What is School at sea and who am I
Hi I am Ties Schoenmakers, I am 15 years old and I follow HAVO TTO at The dr.Mollercollege in Waalwijk in the Netherlands
October 20th (2019) I went on boardand will travel across the ocean with School at Sea for 6 months.
Their tall-ship Barkentijn Thalassa sails (completely on wind energy) than with a crew of 36 students from 4-Havo and 4 and 5-VWO 12000 nautical miles to America and back and I am selected to be a part of this journey!
Through the journey, I want to get to know myself better, but also the world, new cultures, new people and see what can or should be done better and what I and my generation can mean in it. How is it really with our oceans and what can we do ?!
Furthermore, I often like to be on the water; then sail, sail, kitesurf or waterski I, so a better combination does not exist for me.
It is not a holiday trip, it is hard work; We follow our own school and put a lot of these lessons into practice on board and of course you learn to man the ship, for 40 people cooking, cleaning, cleaning up beaches, etc. I also hope to make friends for life and have a great time with the group; you live intensely together for six months and do a lot of experience with each other. learns to lead and work well together.
A huge lesson in life that I feel like!
